Arsenal are back on top of the Premier League, and the latest prediction has given them a huge boost. The title race remains tight, but the numbers now favour Mikel Arteta’s side.
According to Opta Analyst’s supercomputer, Arsenal now hold a 72.4 per cent chance of winning the Premier League. That shift comes after their 1-0 win over Newcastle.
Eberechi Eze scored early, and Arsenal held on to secure three crucial points. The result pushed them back above Manchester City in the table after briefly losing top spot.
Now the situation has changed again. Arsenal could extend their lead to six points before City return to league action.
Pep Guardiola’s side did not play in the Premier League this weekend as they focused on the FA Cup. They beat Southampton 2-1 to reach another final, with Nico Gonzalez scoring late at Wembley.
But that schedule has created pressure. City now face a rearranged fixture in the run-in, and the supercomputer expects that to have an impact.
The projections suggest Arsenal will finish on 82 points, while City will end on 79. That gap could prove decisive.
Arsenal currently sit on 73 points with four matches left, while City have 70 points and five games remaining.
Opta’s model expects Arsenal to win three of their final four matches, while City could drop points in two of their remaining games.
That gives Arsenal a clear edge, and it would also end a long wait. The Gunners have not won the Premier League since 2004, but the latest prediction puts them firmly in control of the race.
There are also changes lower down the table. Tottenham are expected to go down alongside Burnley and Wolves, while Manchester United, Aston Villa and Liverpool secure Champions League spots.
