Some transfers emerge from the most unexpected circumstances.
And suddenly, one of the best midfielders in the world is available.
Manchester United weigh up sensational Federico Valverde move
According to the Daily Star, Manchester United are weighing up a shock move for Federico Valverde, with the Uruguayan having found himself an outcast at Real Madrid following the now-infamous training ground altercation with Aurelien Tchouameni, that left him requiring stitches in hospital.
Both players were fined €500,000 each following a disciplinary meeting.
Tchouameni featured in Real Madrid’s 2-0 El Clásico defeat on Sunday, the match that confirmed Barcelona’s second consecutive La Liga title.
However, Valverde did not.
And several key members of the Madrid dressing room are now pushing for him to be sold this summer.
The context around Real Madrid makes a sale entirely plausible.
A summer of sweeping change is expected at the Bernabeu, as Jose Mourinho is set to take over as manager.
For Manchester United, the timing is almost perfect.
Their midfield overhaul is already underway with multiple signings planned.
Valverde’s profile addresses almost every need they have in one signing.
The financial obstacle is the most significant.
Real Madrid value Valverde at £100 million.
Manchester United are understood to be hoping for a figure closer to £70 million, with the gap between those two positions far from trivial.
Also, his contract runs until 2029, which gives Madrid every reason to hold firm.
But clubs that want to sell rarely maintain that stance for long.
Especially when the internal pressure to move a player is coming from the dressing room itself.
The situation is moving quickly.
And with Champions League football now confirmed and a genuine summer budget in place, Manchester United are exactly the kind of club that can make this happen.
