Manchester United have reportedly already made a final decision regarding Bruno Fernandes’ future ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Portuguese midfielder enjoyed one of the best individual seasons of his career and once again proved himself as the driving force behind United’s return to the Champions League.
Fernandes recently collected several major individual awards after another outstanding campaign at Old Trafford.
The United captain won the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year award, the Premier League Player of the Season prize and the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year honour.
His performances also attracted fresh interest from abroad. Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr reportedly attempted to sign Fernandes last summer with an offer worth around £80 million.
The midfielder’s contract also includes a £57 million release clause that overseas clubs can trigger.
However, despite growing speculation surrounding his future, Manchester United reportedly remain completely relaxed about the situation.
That confidence largely comes from new permanent manager Michael Carrick. Carrick reportedly has no doubts that Fernandes will stay at Old Trafford next season. He said (via Daily Mail)
“I’ve got no reason to think otherwise, you know. We’ve loved what he’s done, and he loves being here. I think you can see that.”
The Manchester United boss believes the Portuguese star remains fully committed to the club and still enjoys playing for United despite recent uncertainty surrounding the team.
Fernandes once again demonstrated his importance during United’s 3-0 victory over Brighton.
The midfielder broke the Premier League assists record for a single season after setting up Patrick Dorgu during the win.
That achievement moved Fernandes ahead of Premier League legends Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
Meanwhile, the Brighton victory also marked Carrick’s biggest win since taking charge of Manchester United.
Manchester United internally view Fernandes as one of the key figures needed for the club’s long-term rebuild under Carrick.
