Manchester United are preparing for a busy summer transfer window after securing Champions League football for next season.
The club are expected to strengthen multiple areas of the squad as they prepare for a demanding campaign ahead.
Midfield remains one of the biggest priorities for the Premier League giants. United are already close to completing a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson.
However, further additions are expected in that department. The club are reportedly planning to recruit two or three midfielders this summer.
Manuel Ugarte could leave Old Trafford, while Casemiro’s departure has already been confirmed. Meanwhile, Manchester United are also exploring options beyond established stars.
The club want to improve their overall squad depth with younger players who can develop into long-term assets.
Sandro Tonali has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks. However, United are also looking closely at players who impressed in the Championship last season.
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are considering summer moves for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles and Leicester City defender Ben Nelson.
United executive Jason Wilcox knows Charles well from his time at Southampton. The defensive midfielder joined the Saints from Manchester City.
However, Charles suffered disappointment last season after Southampton failed to secure promotion following the Spygate controversy.
The midfielder is currently valued at around £25 million. Meanwhile, Manchester United believe he could add quality and depth to their midfield options ahead of next season.
Leicester City defender Ben Nelson has also emerged as a target following the Foxes’ relegation from the Championship.
Now, Manchester United are hoping to move quickly as they continue reshaping the squad for Michael Carrick ahead of their return to Europe’s biggest competition.
