Marco Silva could soon leave Fulham after progressing talks regarding a move away from the Premier League this summer.
The Portuguese manager has entered the final month of his contract at Craven Cottage, although Fulham have already offered him a new deal.
However, Silva has not yet accepted the proposal, and discussions surrounding his future continue intensifying behind the scenes.
The 48-year-old enjoyed another stable campaign in England after guiding Fulham to an 11th-place finish in the Premier League. Fulham ended the season level on points with Chelsea.
Silva also reportedly emerged as one of the candidates to replace Liam Rosenior at Stamford Bridge. However, Chelsea eventually appointed Xabi Alonso.
Now, another major opportunity has emerged for the Portuguese coach. According to ABOLA, Marco Silva is now close to reaching an agreement to become Benfica’s new manager.
The Eagles are searching for a new manager recently lost Jose Mourinho after the 63-year-old agreed a three-year deal to become Real Madrid’s new head coach.
Mourinho had returned for a second spell in September and guided the team to third place in the league without losing a single league game.
The Portuguese giants are searching for stability following Mourinho’s departure and reportedly view Silva as the ideal candidate to continue the project.
Silva first joined Fulham from Everton in July 2021. He immediately guided the London side back to the Premier League after relegation to the Championship.
Since then, he has helped establish Fulham as a consistent Premier League club.
If Silva leaves this summer, Fulham would become the fifth Premier League side currently searching for a new manager.
For Benfica, Silva’s arrival would mark another major managerial appointment ahead of the new season. Now, it remains to be seen whether both parties can finalise the agreement in the coming days.
