Newcastle United set world record asking price for Arsenal and Manchester City target

Neither Arsenal nor Manchester City have ended their interest completely.

Newcastle United have reportedly placed a world-record valuation on one of their most important young players ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Magpies continue rebuilding under Eddie Howe after another dramatic season at St James’ Park. Newcastle already agreed a huge £69M deal to sell Anthony Gordon to Barcelona.

However, the club still want to keep the core of the squad together despite growing interest from Europe’s biggest clubs. Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, and Lewis Miley are some of the players attracting interest from top clubs.

Now, Arsenal and Manchester City are now among the teams monitoring another Newcastle star closely. According to TEAMtalk, both clubs remain huge admirers of full-back Tino Livramento ahead of potential summer moves.

The England international established himself as one of the Premier League’s most highly-rated young defenders over recent seasons.

Livramento’s inclusion in Thomas Tuchel’s England World Cup squad has only increased interest around Europe. However, Newcastle have made their stance extremely clear.

Reports claim the Magpies discussed figures higher than the current world-record fee for a right-back. Paris Saint-Germain currently hold that record after paying around £58M to sign Achraf Hakimi from Inter Milan in 2021.

Newcastle reportedly value Livramento above that figure because they view him as a cornerstone of the club’s long-term future.

Despite admiring the defender strongly, Arsenal and Manchester City now reportedly hold reservations about completing a deal.

Both clubs remain concerned about Livramento’s injury history after a frustrating campaign interrupted by fitness problems. Knee, thigh and hamstring issues limited the defender to only 14 Premier League starts last season.

Still, neither Arsenal nor Manchester City have ended their interest completely. However, reports suggest neither side currently wants to meet Newcastle’s huge valuation.

Livramento will now hope to impress with England at the World Cup this summer as interest in his future continues growing across Europe.
