Nottingham Forest look to sign former Arsenal star

Nottingham Forest submit £24m offer for Arsenal’s Fabio Vieira after Hamburg loan reignites his career.

Some players need a change of scenery to remind the world what they can do.

And the timing of what comes next couldn’t be more interesting.

Yet now, Nottingham Forest want to bring him to the Premier League.

Nottingham Forest submit £24m offer for Arsenal’s Fabio Vieira after Hamburg loan reignites his career

According to Football Insider, Forest have submitted an offer of £24.16 million for Vieira, in a bid that would finally bring the Portuguese midfielder’s four-year Arsenal chapter to a permanent close following a season on loan at Hamburg SV in the Bundesliga.

Arsenal are happy to let him go.

That much has been clear for some time.

Vieira arrived at the Emirates in 2022 for around £34 million from Porto.

A promising creative midfielder who never quite managed to translate his potential into consistent Premier League appearances.

But Hamburg changed everything.

Vieira made 29 top-flight appearances for the German side, contributing 12 goals and assists across a campaign where he was central to the club maintaining their Bundesliga status.

The performances earned genuine public acclaim from manager Merlin Polzin.

“Fabio sometimes makes decisions that are a vast improvement on the instructions that we the coaching staff give him,” Polzin said in March.

“He’s brilliant when it comes to taking risks. I’m happy about every minute we have with him.”

That kind of praise from a manager is exactly what a player carrying the weight of an underperforming Premier League career needed.

Hamburg had a £19 million option to buy.

However, they couldn’t afford it.

And that option has expired.

At 26, Vieira is entering what should be his peak years.

A creative central midfielder who can take risks, drive forward and contribute at both ends of the game.

Exactly the type of player Vitor Pereira’s system at the City Ground thrives around.

Forest’s summer business has been driven by a clear ambition.

They want players who can contribute immediately, who have something to prove, and who will raise the technical level of the squad.

And for a player who spent four years waiting for his Arsenal chance, the City Ground could finally be the stage where he delivers on that original promise.
