Michael Carrick makes decision on Marcus Rashford’s future at Manchester United

The attacker also impressed during his time at Barcelona.

Manchester United face a big summer as Michael Carrick prepares for his first full season in charge. The Red Devils have already started work on strengthening the squad.

However, incoming transfers are not the only issue facing the club. Several decisions must also be made on players whose futures remain uncertain.

One of the biggest questions surrounds Marcus Rashford. The England international spent last season on loan at Barcelona.

Many expected the move to become permanent this summer. Barcelona secured an option to sign Rashford for £26 million.

However, that agreement is now close to expiring. The situation changed after Barcelona completed a major move for Anthony Gordon.

As a result, reports suggest the Spanish champions no longer view Rashford as a priority target. That development could force the forward back to Old Trafford.

According to The Sun, Michael Carrick has not ruled out that possibility. The report claims the Manchester United manager has remained in regular contact with Rashford in recent weeks.

It also states that members of the club’s leadership group have spoken with the player. Furthermore, there is reportedly a belief that the dressing room would welcome him back.

Rashford has not played for Manchester United since December 2024. His relationship with former manager Ruben Amorim broke down before he left on loan.

The forward later spent time at Aston Villa before moving to Barcelona. Despite those issues, Rashford remains under contract until June 2028.

Rashford remains one of the most productive players to emerge from the club’s academy. He has scored 138 goals and registered 79 assists in 426 appearances for Manchester United.

The attacker also impressed during his time at Barcelona. Last season, he contributed 14 goals and 14 assists in 49 matches. For now, Rashford’s future remains unresolved.

Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain continue to attract speculation. Yet a return to Old Trafford now appears more realistic than many expected.
