Arsenal head into the summer transfer window from a position of strength after ending their long wait for the Premier League title. Mikel Arteta guided the Gunners to domestic glory for the first time in 22 years.
They also came within touching distance of lifting the UEFA Champions League before suffering heartbreak against Paris Saint-Germain in the final.
Despite the club’s remarkable campaign, Arsenal’s ambitions remain even greater. Arteta admitted after the Champions League final that improvements are still needed across the squad.
The Gunners will invest heavily once again after last year’s record spending, with the hierarchy aiming to add between three and five high-quality players.
However, new arrivals will also require departures. Sporting director Andrea Berta will reshape the squad by moving on several players before completing further additions.
According to The Times, Gabriel Martinelli is now considering leaving Arsenal this summer. The report adds that growing speculation surrounding Arsenal’s pursuit of a new left winger has influenced the Brazilian’s thinking.
Arteta reportedly believes neither Martinelli nor Leandro Trossard has consistently shown the elite quality required to elevate the team even further.
Martinelli still has 12 months remaining on his current contract. Arsenal also hold an option to extend the deal by a further year.
The 25-year-old was previously linked with Bayern Munich before the Bundesliga champions opted to sign Luis Diaz instead.
His age will also play a significant role in any decision over Arsenal’s outgoing business. Martinelli would likely command a considerably higher transfer fee than Trossard.
Having spent seven seasons in North London, Martinelli has made 278 appearances for Arsenal and scored 62 goals.
Whether he remains part of Arteta’s long-term plans could now become one of the biggest talking points of the Gunners’ summer transfer window.
