Hull City are back in the Premier League after ending a nine-year absence with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.
However, preparations for life in the top flight have not been straightforward, with the Tigers forced to balance their finances before turning their attention to the transfer market.
The club sold goalkeeper Ivor Pandur to Rangers and midfielder Aidon Shehu before the Profit and Sustainability deadline, clearing the way for their first arrival of the summer.
Hull City have now officially confirmed the signing of Jack Butland from Rangers for an undisclosed fee.
The experienced goalkeeper has signed a two-year contract, with the club holding the option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.
Butland arrives after a successful three-year spell at Rangers, where he made 157 appearances and played every minute of the 2025–26 Scottish Premiership campaign.
The 33-year-old also featured 55 times in all competitions last season after helping Rangers win the Scottish League Cup during his first year at Ibrox.
He also collected the club’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards.
Before moving to Scotland, Butland spent seven years at Stoke City and made 77 Premier League appearances.
He also played in the top flight for Crystal Palace and had a short loan spell at Manchester United in 2023, although he did not make a competitive appearance.
Butland becomes Sergej Jakirovic’s first signing since Hull secured promotion, with further additions expected before the Tigers begin their Premier League campaign.
After overcoming financial challenges earlier this summer, Hull have now started strengthening the squad as they prepare for a demanding return to England’s top flight.
