Manchester United completed one of the biggest turnarounds in English football during the 2025-26 season.
The club recovered from a disastrous campaign a year earlier to finish third in the Premier League and secure Champions League qualification.
United struggled badly during the opening months of the season and eventually parted ways with Ruben Amorim in January.
However, the picture changed completely after Michael Carrick stepped into the dugout.
The former midfielder transformed the team and guided United back into Europe’s elite competition before earning a permanent contract.
Bruno Fernandes led that resurgence with a historic campaign of his own.
The Portuguese playmaker won the Premier League Player of the Season award after breaking the competition’s single-season assist record.
Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo also delivered crucial goals as United secured a twelve-place improvement in the table.
Despite the progress, Carrick has continued to reshape the squad aggressively this summer.
The club have prioritised midfield reinforcements after Casemiro departed and Manuel Ugarte suffered a long-term ACL injury.
United have already agreed deals for Andrey Santos and Ederson, with both midfielders expected to complete medicals.
At the same time, United are assessing further additions in attack ahead of their return to the Champions League.
According to Football Insider, Manchester United have identified Brian Brobbey as one of their attacking targets this summer.
However, Sunderland remain relaxed about the growing interest in their striker. The Black Cats are looking to keep hold of the Dutchman.
The striker scored seven league goals during his debut campaign in English football. He then carried that form onto the international stage and scored three goals in four matches at the World Cup.
Regis Le Bris views the forward as a central figure in Sunderland’s project moving forward.
As a result, Manchester United could face a difficult task if they decide to intensify their pursuit in the coming weeks.
