Aston Villa enjoyed one of the finest seasons in the club’s modern history during the 2025/26 campaign.
Unai Emery guided Villa to Europa League glory with a 3-0 victory over Freiburg in the final. Also, a fourth-place Premier League finish secured a return to the Champions League.
Preparations for European football have already sparked a busy summer at Villa Park. The club moved quickly to sign defender Modou Keba Cisse.
They also recently hijacked Newcastle United’s move for Freiburg midfielder Johan Manzambi following Amadou Onana’s serious knee injury at the World Cup.
Aston Villa have also stood firm over interest in several key players. Morgan Rogers remains valued at £130 million amid Arsenal interest.
Meanwhile, Emiliano Martínez may not leave despite enquiries from Juventus. However, a major departure is now on the horizon.
Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Youri Tielemans after triggering the £35 million release clause in his Aston Villa contract.
Villa had hoped to keep the Belgian and even offered him a new deal, but the clause has left them powerless to prevent the move.
As a result, attention has quickly turned towards finding a replacement. According to TEAMtalk, Aston Villa have now opened talks with Manchester United over a potential move for Mason Mount.
The former Chelsea midfielder has attracted interest from several clubs this summer after another injury-hit spell at Old Trafford.
Despite making 23 Premier League appearances last season, Mount remains some way from rediscovering the form that made him one of Chelsea’s most important players.
However, completing a deal could prove difficult. Michael Carrick remains a strong admirer of Mount.
He recently blocked enquiries from Newcastle United, Inter Milan and other interested clubs.
Villa’s interest is genuine, but persuading United to part with Mount may prove far more difficult than replacing Tielemans.
