Some clubs build their identity around one player.
Everything flows through him.
The press and the moments of creativity in the tightest of spaces.
For Newcastle United, that player is Bruno Guimaraes.
The club have a message for Arsenal, and for anyone else listening.
He is not for sale.
Newcastle call Arsenal’s valuation of Bruno Guimaraes “an insult” as club slam nonsense transfer talk
According to the Newcastle Chronicle, Newcastle United have hit back at the speculation surrounding Guimaraes, with the club labelling Arsenal’s valuation of the Brazilian as an “insult” and making their stance as clear as it has ever been.
The Gunners had been working on the assumption they could sign Guimarães for around £50 million.
Newcastle want £90 million.
That is not a negotiating position.
That is the number, and the club have told Arsenal directly that they are nowhere near it.
Newcastle sold Alexander Isak last season.
They have sold Sandro Tonali to Tottenham.
High-profile departures have become part of the summer reality at St James’ Park, as well as transfer hijacks.
Guimaraes is increasingly aware of that pattern.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed the player’s position clearly.
“Bruno Guimaraes wants to go to Arsenal. Bruno Guimaraes has a clear desire to go to Arsenal and personal terms are in place.”
He is growing frustrated by Newcastle’s direction following further high-profile sales.
He wants Champions League football regularly.
And he wants Arsenal.
But the club that shaped him into one of the Premier League’s best midfielders are not giving him up at a price they consider insulting.
Something has to give.
Either Arsenal find a way to get significantly closer to £90 million, or Guimaraes begins another season on Tyneside against his wishes.
Neither outcome is comfortable for anyone involved.
