Bournemouth sign Uruguayan superstar for £25m

Some signings are about right now.

And some are about what a player becomes over the next five years.

And Bournemouth have moved quickly to make sure his next chapter is written on the south coast.

Bournemouth confirm signing of Alvaro Rodriguez from Elche in £25.7m deal

According to the BBC, Bournemouth have agreed a deal worth an initial £21.4 million rising to £25.7 million through add-ons for the 22-year-old Uruguayan striker, with Rodriguez signing a long-term contract until June 2031 and becoming Marco Rose’s first signing as Cherries head coach.

The deal has also delivered a significant financial windfall for Real Madrid.

Los Blancos retained a 50% sell-on clause when they sold Rodriguez to Elche for just €2 million last summer.

Meaning the Bernabeu stands to receive approximately €12.5 million from the base fee alone, and potentially as much as €15 million if every add-on is triggered.

It’s a textbook example of how Real Madrid have quietly turned the economic rights of their academy graduates into a serious revenue stream.

He comes to Vitality Stadium with credentials built in some of the most demanding environments in Spanish football.

Coming through Girona’s academy before joining Real Madrid’s celebrated La Fabrica setup in 2020, making his senior debut under Carlo Ancelotti three years later.

After leaving the Bernabeu for Elche last summer, he hit the ground running.

Scoring seven goals in 34 La Liga appearances, including strikes against both Real Madrid and Barcelona.

No Elche player had more goal involvements than his 12 across the campaign.

Bournemouth are clear about how they see him.

He is not arriving as Eli Junior Kroupi’s replacement.

He is an exciting long-term addition, one designed to provide competition and quality in forward areas as Rose builds toward a campaign that combines Premier League football with European competition.

The Cherries finish a memorable chapter under Andoni Iraola.

And now, with Rose at the helm and Rodriguez through the door, a new one begins.
