Marcus Rashford rebuilt his reputation during an impressive loan spell with FC Barcelona last season. The England international scored 14 goals and provided 14 assists across all competitions.
Those performances earned him a place in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad. Rashford made an immediate impact in the tournament by scoring against Croatia in England’s opening match.
He later started against Panama and featured throughout England’s run to the semi-finals. However, the campaign ended in disappointment following defeat to Argentina in Atlanta.
Despite his resurgence in Spain, Rashford’s club future remains uncertain this summer. FC Barcelona decided against activating their £26 million purchase option and instead moved for Anthony Gordon.
Manchester United are now looking for a permanent solution and have reportedly set a £40 million asking price. Interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey has emerged in recent weeks.
However, Fabrizio Romano has now dismissed reports linking the forward with Fenerbahce. Romano said on his YouTube channel:
“Many reports, guys, but my understanding is that there is nothing between Marcus Rashford and Fenerbahce. No negotiations, no conversations.”
Romano also made it clear that the player has no interest in moving to Turkey. He explained:
“Marcus Rashford, with all due respect to Fenerbahce, is not considering a move to Turkey at this stage of his career. Rashford is not considering that.”
Instead, the England international will return to Manchester United after his post-World Cup break.
According to Romano, new head coach Michael Carrick wants to assess Rashford during pre-season before making a decision. Romano said”
“He (Carrick) wants to be with Rashford in pre-season to see the attitude, to see the feelings, and then decide whether he’s going to stay or leave the club in August.”
That means Rashford’s immediate future could depend on the relationship he builds with Carrick over the coming weeks.
The winger still has two years remaining on his current contract at Old Trafford. For now, a return to Manchester United remains possible if no suitable transfer offer arrives before the deadline.
