Marcus Rashford revived his career during a successful season-long loan at Barcelona in 2025/26.
The Manchester United forward scored 14 goals and registered 14 assists across 49 appearances. He also helped Barcelona win the La Liga title.
However, Barcelona decided against activating their £26 million option to sign him permanently.
Rashford consequently returned to Manchester United this summer. Michael Carrick has since reintegrated the 28-year-old into his first-team squad.
He recently featured against AC Milan in pre-season. It marked his first United appearance in 611 days.
Despite his return, questions remain over his future with the transfer window approaching its final weeks.
According to TEAMtalk, Barcelona remain in contact with Rashford’s representatives and could revive their interest in signing him.
The Spanish champions have already strengthened their attack with Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi.
However, Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres have left the club. Roony Bardghji will also miss the season through injury.
Barcelona therefore continue to assess further attacking additions. Their pursuit of Julian Alvarez could determine whether they make another move for Rashford.
Atletico Madrid have maintained that they do not want to sell Alvarez to Barcelona. Their stance has prevented Barcelona from making progress over a deal.
Rashford could become a more relevant option if Barcelona cannot reach a breakthrough for the Argentina international.
The England forward would welcome another opportunity to play for the Catalan club.
Barcelona prefer a loan deal for Rashford. Manchester United, however, have previously insisted on a permanent departure.
United could now face another decision if Barcelona return with a proposal that works financially.
Rashford still has two years remaining on his contract. He has also returned as United’s highest-paid player. Carrick and his staff remain prepared to use Rashford this season if he stays at Old Trafford.
For now, Barcelona have kept communication open. Their chances of reigniting a move could depend on whether they can make progress in their pursuit of Alvarez.
