Zlatan Ibrahimovic announces decision to quit as pundit

The former forward had never previously worked as a television pundit before taking on the new challenge this summer.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has announced that he will quit punditry after working on television throughout the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The former Sweden international joined Rebecca Lowe, Thierry Henry and Alexi Lalas on Fox Sports for the tournament this summer.

However, following the World Cup final, Ibrahimovic confirmed that viewers had seen him working as a television pundit for the final time.

The former forward had never previously worked as a television pundit before taking on the new challenge this summer.

After Spain defeated Argentina in the final, Zlatan Ibrahimovic thanked everyone involved before announcing his farewell from the studio. He said:

“I’ve been talking a lot the last one-and-a-half months, so this will be my last words.

“I want to thank America. I want to thank all the other people you don’t see. I don’t remember all their names like Thierry.

“I hope, America, you enjoyed it as much as I did. And this is also my farewell to the studio.”

Rebecca Lowe then asked Ibrahimovic whether he was saying goodbye to punditry permanently after his first experience in the role. He replied:

“This was the first and last time for me, so take care, everybody.”

Ibrahimovic’s final appearance as a pundit came after Spain defeated defending champions Argentina to become world champions for the second time.

The World Cup final remained goalless throughout the opening 90 minutes before the game eventually went into extra time.

However, Argentina suffered a major blow when Enzo Fernandez received a red card during stoppage time and left his team with ten men.

Spain eventually capitalised on their numerical advantage when substitute Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute.

As a result, Spain secured a 1-0 victory over Argentina after extra time to lift their second World Cup title.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi received his runners-up medal after Argentina failed to successfully defend the title they had won at the previous tournament.
