Liverpool join Arsenal in race to sign Sweden World Cup star

Liverpool and Arsenal are not alone in showing interest during the summer transfer window.

Liverpool endured a difficult 2025-26 campaign as they finished the season without winning any major silverware under Arne Slot.

As a result, the Reds replaced Slot with former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola and started rebuilding their squad this summer.

Liverpool have already signed Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes for £55 million and Victor Munoz from Osasuna.

However, Iraola still has work to do after several important players left Anfield during the summer transfer window.

Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson were among those who departed after their contracts expired, leaving Liverpool needing further reinforcements.

The departure of Robertson has created a particular need on the left side as Liverpool search for a long-term option.

Meanwhile, Premier League champions Arsenal are also looking at versatile options as Mikel Arteta continues strengthening his squad.

According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund and Sweden star Daniel Svensson this summer.

The Reds have placed Svensson firmly on their transfer agenda and reportedly have a concrete plan to secure his signature.

The 22-year-old enjoyed an impressive 2025-26 campaign with Borussia Dortmund, making 33 appearances in the Bundesliga.

Svensson scored twice and provided two assists, while his versatility allowed him to operate in several different positions.

The Sweden international can play at left-back and wing-back while also providing another option in midfield.

He also represented Sweden at the 2026 World Cup, featuring three times before their elimination against France.

However, Liverpool and Arsenal are not alone in showing interest in signing Svensson during the summer transfer window.

Real Madrid, Juventus and AC Milan have also been linked, although the strongest interest currently comes from England.

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund remain in a strong negotiating position because Svensson has a contract running until June 2029.

Previous reports valued the defender between €35 million and €45 million, but growing competition could push the package towards €50 million.

Therefore, Liverpool could face significant competition as Iraola looks to add Svensson to his rebuilding project at Anfield.
