Arsenal revive interest in Spain winger

Arsenal have now returned to another attacking option they have admired for a long time.

Arsenal enjoyed a historic 2025-26 campaign as they ended their 22-year wait to win the Premier League title.

The Gunners also reached the Champions League final, although Paris Saint-Germain denied them another major trophy.

Now, Arsenal are looking to strengthen again as Mikel Arteta prepares his squad to defend their domestic crown.

The North London club have already signed Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge for around €34-35 million this summer.

Also, Arsenal brought in Illan Meslier on a free transfer after Leandro Trossard completed his move to Besiktas.

However, their transfer plans suffered a major setback when Chelsea won the race to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa.

Uncertainty also remains around another long-standing target, Bradley Barcola, as competition for his signature continues to grow.

As a result, Arsenal have now returned to another attacking option they have admired for a long time.

According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal have made fresh contact over a potential move for Athletic Club winger Nico Williams this summer.

Sporting director Andrea Berta has held discussions around the Spain international as the Gunners assess whether a deal is possible.

Williams heads into the summer after helping Spain win the World Cup following their victory over Argentina in the final.

The 23-year-old came off the bench in both the semi-final and final during Spain’s successful tournament.

He also created the winning goal in the final with a clever nod-back before Ferran Torres finished the chance.

At club level, injuries limited Williams to 20 La Liga starts during the 2025-26 campaign.

However, Arsenal have continued to admire him despite missing out on a move in previous transfer windows.

Williams signed a new long-term contract with Athletic Club, which reportedly contains a release clause worth around €90 million.

Liverpool have also tracked him closely, but Arsenal are now stepping up their work around a possible transfer.

The Premier League could appeal to Williams, with Arsenal viewed as an attractive option should he decide to leave Athletic Club.
