Rotherham United sign Deadpool

Some signings make complete sense the moment they’re announced.

The profile fits.

The manager wants him and the fee is right.

And some signings arrive with a storyline so specific that the announcement alone becomes a piece of content.

This is very much the second kind.

Rotherham United have signed a man who famously played Deadpool.

Yes, you read that right.

Rotherham United confirm signing of Paul Mullin

According to Rotherham United’s official website, the Millers have completed the signing of former Wrexham striker Paul Mullin, having a remarkable goalscoring record across non-league and lower league football, and the unique distinction of having played the Marvel superhero Deadpool in a feature film.

It is not a detail that appears on most football CVs.

But then, Paul Mullin is not most footballers.

His career has been one of the most unconventional in recent English football memory.

He came through the system at Cambridge United, moving to Wrexham during the period when Hollywood ownership turned them into one of the most watched stories.

And scored goals prolifically enough to become a central figure in their journey through the National League and into the English Football League.

He played for Shelbourne in the League of Ireland before this move materialised, winning a League of Ireland title there.

And throughout it all he found time to appear as the Merc with a Mouth himself.

And when he gets a chance in front of goal, the outcome is rarely in doubt.

Manager Matt Hamshaw knows exactly what he’s getting, a forward with experience across multiple levels, a proven ability to score goals and a personality that brings something different to a dressing room.

Rotherham United are back in the Championship this season.

They need goals.

Yet, they’ve signed the man who played Deadpool.

That’ll do.
