Liverpool and Arsenal continue to explore major additions before the summer transfer window closes.
The Reds have already started a significant rebuild under new head coach Andoni Iraola. Mohamed Salah’s departure created a huge vacancy on the right side of Liverpool’s attack.
Therefore, the club have made Bradley Barcola their leading target this summer. Liverpool have reached an agreement in principle with the Paris Saint-Germain winger.
However, they must still negotiate a transfer fee with the French champions. The Reds have also strengthened other areas of their squad.
Jeremy Jacquet joined from Rennes for £60M, while Victor Munoz completed a £34.5M move from Osasuna. Still, Iraola wants more options before the new season begins.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are preparing to defend their Premier League crown. The Gunners ended their 22-year title drought last season after finishing above Manchester City.
Mikel Arteta now wants to improve his squad depth during the current window. Arsenal have already signed Christos Tzolis and Illan Meslier.
However, the club also allowed Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior to leave. Furthermore, William Saliba’s injury has increased Arsenal’s need for defensive reinforcements.
Now, both clubs have received the opportunity to sign another versatile option. According to The Sun, intermediaries have offered Sporting Lisbon star Maxi Araujo to Liverpool and Arsenal.
The Uruguay international enjoyed an impressive campaign in Portugal last season. He scored five goals and provided four assists across 29 league appearances.
Araujo also strengthened his reputation during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The 26-year-old scored against Saudi Arabia before producing another goal and an assist against Cape Verde.
Sporting Lisbon remain in a strong negotiating position. The Portuguese club reportedly want at least £51.5M before considering a sale. Araujo also has a release clause worth close to £70M.
Manchester United have monitored the wing-back after sending scouts to watch him at the World Cup.
However, Liverpool and Arsenal can now enter the race after receiving the chance to secure his signature.
