Some transfers change everything.
A player arrives.
He impresses.
He makes himself impossible to ignore.
Yet, the club that owns him sells him to someone else entirely.
That’s the story of Benjamin Sesko at Manchester United.
And Bayern Munich are the ones set to benefit.
Bayern Munich close in on Benjamin Sesko as Manchester United prepare to sell Slovenian striker
According to CF Bayern Insider, Bayern Munich are in advanced discussions to sign Sesko from Manchester United, with the 23-year-old Slovenian striker understood to be open to the move as Vincent Kompany seeks a long-term successor to Harry Kane at the Allianz Arena.
Thus, the logic behind Bayern’s pursuit is clear and deliberate.
However, Kane is 33 years old.
He has two more years on his current contract.
Thus, at some point, the most prolific striker in Bundesliga history will need to transition into a deeper, less physically demanding role.
Sesko is the player Bayern have identified to facilitate that transition.
At 6ft 5in, physically imposing, technically refined and already proven at the highest level, the Slovenian offers everything the club needs in a long-term centre-forward.
However, his season at Manchester United delivered exactly what was expected.
The kind of performances that made it abundantly clear the initial fee paid to bring him to Old Trafford was entirely justified.
Yet, selling him for a significant profit, while investing those funds elsewhere in Michael Carrick’s rebuild, is the financially and footballing-logical outcome.
Bayern Munich are making that outcome happen.
Kompany knows Sesko from his time working in the Bundesliga.
And has long admired the physical and technical profile the Slovenian brings.
Therefore, a player who can challenge Kane for minutes now, and inherit the position entirely in two or three years, is exactly what the German giants have been planning for.
However, are Manchester United ready to let him go?
