Newcastle United are preparing to part ways with Bruno Guimaraes as their major squad rebuild continues this summer.
Following the departures of Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, the Magpies have focused on recruiting younger talent while reshaping the squad ahead of the 2026/27 season under incoming head coach Matthias Jaissle.
The club has already invested heavily in prospects such as Sean Steur, Aladji Bamba and Lukas Hornicek.
But another significant departure now appears imminent. Newcastle’s priority has been balancing the squad while adapting to a new long-term recruitment strategy after Eddie Howe’s exit.
According to David Ornstein from The Athletic, Newcastle United have now sanctioned Bruno Guimaraes’ transfer to Arsenal in a deal worth £75 million.
The report states that Arsenal initially opened negotiations with a much lower offer before both clubs reached a compromise to allow the Brazil international to complete his move to north London.
Ornstein adds that Guimaraes informed Newcastle in early July of his desire to leave St James’ Park and join the Premier League champions.
Arsenal first indicated they were prepared to pay up to £60 million. Meanwhile, an earlier verbal bid below that figure was rejected before negotiations progressed.
The 28-year-old is now awaiting permission to undergo his medical. Currently, he is training with Newcastle at their pre-season camp in La Manga.
The agreement also means Lyon, Guimaraes’ former club, will receive between £7 million and £8 million. This is because of a 20 per cent sell-on clause from Newcastle’s profit on the transfer.
Guimaraes leaves Newcastle after making 153 Premier League appearances. He scored 30 goals and provided 26 assists since arriving from Lyon in January 2022.
He also played a key role in the club’s Carabao Cup triumph in 2025. Guimaraes contributed nine goals and eight assists across all competitions last season.
