Tottenham Hotspur set to battle Arsenal for star striker

Tottenham and Arsenal remain potential contenders for the striker.

Tottenham Hotspur have invested heavily this summer as Roberto De Zerbi reshapes his squad following a turbulent 2025–26 campaign.

Spurs eventually secured Premier League survival on the final day, but their struggles highlighted the need for significant improvements across the squad.

More than £230 million has subsequently been committed to the rebuild, with Sandro Tonali and Jan Paul van Hecke among the notable arrivals.

However, Tottenham are still assessing opportunities to strengthen their attack before the summer transfer window closes.

Their search could put them into direct competition with North London rivals Arsenal, who are also considering another major attacking addition.

The Gunners enter the new campaign as Premier League champions after finally ending their long wait for another domestic league title.

Mikel Arteta’s side have already strengthened considerably, but signing another clinical centre-forward remains among the possibilities.

According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have both held internal discussions about signing Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen this summer.

Manchester United have also discussed the 27-year-old, although their interest has cooled because of the overall financial commitment required.

Neither Tottenham nor Arsenal have submitted a formal offer, while advanced negotiations over Osimhen have not taken place.

Arsenal included Osimhen’s name during recent discussions with Galatasaray regarding separate transfer business, but no one considered this unusual.

Tottenham, meanwhile, continue to monitor his situation as De Zerbi’s squad rebuild moves towards the closing stages of the window.

Osimhen is interested in playing in England after previously holding ambitions of testing himself in the Premier League.

However, completing a deal would require either North London club to overcome significant financial obstacles.

His substantial salary represents one major issue because his current Galatasaray package benefits from favourable tax arrangements in Turkey.

Galatasaray are also reluctant to sell and would demand a significant transfer fee before considering his departure.

Therefore, Tottenham and Arsenal remain potential contenders rather than active bidders, with a breakthrough currently appearing some distance away.
