Manchester United are preparing for the new Premier League season after securing Champions League football last term.
Michael Carrick transformed their fortunes after replacing Ruben Amorim in January. United won 12 of their final 17 league matches. That impressive run carried them to third place with 71 points.
Bruno Fernandes played a major role in the revival. The captain registered a Premier League-record 21 assists during the campaign.
United have since strengthened Carrick’s squad ahead of their return to European football.
However, attention away from the pitch has now turned towards one of the club’s most decorated former players.
According to the BBC, Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has received a six-month driving ban after two separate cases. The 51-year-old committed the offences within the space of two days.
Scholes was caught speeding in his Range Rover on the A649 Halifax Road near Cleckheaton on 3 March.
Police said he responded to a notice of intended prosecution and confirmed that he had been driving.
Bradford Magistrates’ Court handed Scholes a six-month driving ban on 12 August. He also received fines relating to the offence.
The court papers described Scholes as a “totter”, meaning he already had penalty points and faced an automatic ban.
A separate case involved his Mercedes exceeding the speed limit on Mossley Road near Ashton-under-Lyne on 14 November last year.
Police sent two letters to Scholes’ home but received no response. The force later dropped the speeding allegation but prosecuted him for failing to respond to the letters.
Manchester Magistrates’ Court subsequently gave Scholes six penalty points and additional fines. The fines, court costs and fees across the two criminal cases totalled £1,472.
Scholes did not enter pleas and received both convictions in his absence under the Single Justice Procedure.
The former midfielder made 499 appearances for Manchester United. He won 11 Premier League titles, three FA Cups and two Champions League trophies during his career.
