Liverpool identify Yankuba Minteh alternative from Premier League

The Reds quickly turned their attention towards another Premier League winger.

Liverpool are looking to strengthen their attack before the September 1 transfer deadline under new head coach Andoni Iraola.

The Reds started their Premier League campaign with a 2-2 draw against Newcastle United after finishing fifth last season.

Liverpool have also reshaped their squad significantly following the departures of Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate.

They signed Jeremy Jacquet, Ronald Araujo and Victor Munoz, while Bradley Barcola remains another major attacking target.

However, Liverpool also wanted a right-sided attacker and entered negotiations with Brighton & Hove Albion for Yankuba Minteh.

The Reds submitted a £60 million bid, but Brighton rejected their proposal and demanded around £80 million for Minteh.

Liverpool eventually walked away because Brighton refused to lower their demands, while Minteh also suffered an ankle injury.

As a result, the Reds quickly turned their attention towards another Premier League winger before the transfer window closes.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have opened talks to sign Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr and submitted a proposal worth around £50 million.

Romano also reports that the Senegal international wants the move after Liverpool identified him following the collapse of the Minteh deal.

However, Crystal Palace rejected Liverpool’s £50 million proposal and currently plan to keep Sarr beyond the transfer deadline.

Palace had already rejected two offers from Galatasaray before turning down Liverpool’s opening approach for the winger.

Liverpool must therefore decide whether to return with another offer as they continue searching for attacking reinforcements.

Sarr scored 21 goals in all competitions last season and earned the Europa Conference League Player of the Season award.

Meanwhile, Liverpool still have limited time to reach an agreement, with the September 1 transfer deadline rapidly approaching.

Their pursuit of Minteh has ended because of Brighton’s demands, making Sarr their latest Premier League option for the right side.
