Manchester City are overseeing major changes under Enzo Maresca following Pep Guardiola’s departure this summer.
Their competitive campaign started with a 3-0 Community Shield defeat against Arsenal, despite an encouraging pre-season finish against Atletico Madrid.
City responded in the Premier League by producing a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium.
Marc Guehi equalised in the 85th minute before Josko Gvardiol struck the stoppage-time winner, with Rayan Cherki assisting both goals.
Meanwhile, City’s transfer business has involved significant spending alongside several high-profile departures.
Rodri joined Barcelona and Bernardo Silva moved to Real Madrid, prompting City to reinforce their midfield heavily.
Elliot Anderson arrived from Nottingham Forest for £116 million, while Ayyoub Bouaddi joined from Lille for £86 million.
Savio has also departed for Tottenham in a package potentially reaching £85 million, with Omar Marmoush heading towards the same destination.
Another experienced member of Maresca’s squad could now leave after City received a proposal from a Premier League rival.
According to David Ornstein from The Athletic, Sunderland have submitted a loan offer for Manchester City winger Jack Grealish.
The proposed agreement would require City to cover part of Grealish’s salary and could become permanent next summer.
That possibility coincides with the 30-year-old reaching the end of his existing Manchester City contract.
Grealish spent last season on loan at Everton, registering two goals and six assists across 22 appearances.
His campaign ended prematurely after he suffered a stress fracture in his foot during January.
Everton possessed an option to sign him permanently for around £50 million but decided against activating it.
Grealish has since returned to City and appeared as a substitute in their opening two competitive fixtures.
However, City have remained open to allowing him to leave either permanently or temporarily this summer. AC Milan also recently showed interest in Grealish.
Sunderland are now pushing to provide that opportunity while simultaneously pursuing Marseille winger Igor Paixao.
Grealish originally joined City from Aston Villa for £100 million in 2019 and has made 159 appearances for the club.
