Manchester United have focused heavily on rebuilding their midfield this summer following Casemiro’s departure.
Michael Carrick’s side signed Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans before completing a £70 million deal for Carlos Baleba.
United also added Karl Darlow, Tynan Thompson and Kit Margetson while several fringe players departed during the window.
However, the Red Devils still want to strengthen other areas before the transfer deadline.
Their Premier League campaign started badly with a 2-0 defeat away at newly promoted Hull City.
United dominated possession and registered 20 shots, but Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy punished their defensive weaknesses.
Santos and Tielemans both started but failed to spark a breakthrough before being substituted in the second half.
As a result, Carrick’s side entered the final days of the window under immediate pressure.
A new left-back remains one of United’s clearest priorities as they look to add more defensive depth.
According to TEAMtalk, Manchester United are exploring a move for RB Leipzig left-back David Raum.
The 28-year-old is entering the final year of his contract, which could make Leipzig more open to a sale.
United reportedly believe an offer around €35 million (£30 million) could prove difficult for the Bundesliga club to reject.
Director of recruitment Christopher Vivell has recommended Raum to the board after maintaining strong connections with Leipzig.
Raum’s ability to operate at left centre-back also increases his appeal to United.
However, the club are still considering several alternatives before deciding whether to move for the Germany international.
United have already held talks with Jorge Mendes over other left-back options, including Alejandro Balde.
Luke Shaw’s workload remains a concern, especially with Champions League football returning this season.
Therefore, Raum has emerged as another serious option as United assess how best to strengthen Carrick’s defence before the deadline.
