Real Madrid identify Eduardo Camavinga replacement amid Manchester United links

Madrid are still monitoring the market in case an important midfielder leaves before the deadline.

Real Madrid endured frustration in the transfer market after missing out on their primary midfield target Rodri this summer.

The Spanish giants pursued the Manchester City star after his impressive World Cup campaign with Spain.

However, Rodri eventually joined Barcelona in a deal worth up to €76.5 million despite interest from Real Madrid.

Jose Mourinho subsequently played down the disappointment and insisted that his current squad was already strong enough.

Meanwhile, the failed pursuit has also influenced Eduardo Camavinga‘s position at the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

Real Madrid were open to listening to offers for the 23-year-old earlier in the transfer window.

Manchester United subsequently prepared a €50 million offer as Michael Carrick continued strengthening his midfield at Old Trafford.

However, Camavinga rejected the possibility of joining United because he wants to remain with Real Madrid.

The Frenchman believes Rodri’s move to Barcelona could provide him with a clearer pathway to regular first-team football.

Despite that stance, Madrid are still monitoring the market in case an important midfielder leaves before the deadline.

According to AS (via SPORT), Real Madrid have identified Roma midfielder Manu Kone as a possible replacement if Camavinga leaves the club.

The 25-year-old remains under contract with Roma until 2029, while a transfer could cost around €60 million.

Kone made 37 appearances last season, playing more than 2,700 minutes while contributing two goals and three assists.

He also featured five times for France at the World Cup, starting four matches and playing more than 380 minutes.

Kone increased his importance under Didier Deschamps and moved ahead of Camavinga in the France midfield hierarchy.

However, Real Madrid would only consider signing him if a significant midfielder departs before the transfer window closes.

Aurelien Tchouameni represents another possible departure, although Real Madrid currently consider his exit less likely.

For now, neither Camavinga nor Tchouameni wants to leave, meaning Madrid’s move for Kone remains dependent on an outgoing transfer.
