Manchester United offered chance to sign Chelsea star

United are now considering further additions before the transfer window closes on September 1.

Manchester United have already completed a major midfield rebuild during the summer transfer window under Michael Carrick.

The Red Devils spent heavily to strengthen that department, signing Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.

Baleba arrived from Brighton for a £70 million package, while United also brought in goalkeeper Karl Darlow.

However, Carrick’s side made a disappointing start to the Premier League season with a 2-0 defeat against Hull City.

Luke Shaw and Noussair Mazraoui struggled in wide areas, while United failed to generate enough threatening service throughout the game.

As a result, United are now considering further defensive additions before the transfer window closes on September 1.

The club have been looking for a new left-back to provide competition for Shaw, but they could also strengthen centrally.

Harry Maguire extended his contract earlier this year, while Matthijs de Ligt continues recovering from a back injury.

Lisandro Martinez has also struggled with availability, while Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro remain developing options for Carrick.

According to Ben Jacobs on The United Stand, Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo.

Chelsea currently consider the 28-year-old a potential squad option after Maxence Lacroix arrived from Crystal Palace this summer.

Tosin is currently on the fringes of Chelsea’s first team, making a potential late move possible for United.

However, he is not the only central defender that Manchester United have considered during the closing stages.

Jacobs revealed that United have internally discussed Southampton defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis as another possible option before the deadline.

Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong is also on United’s radar, although Chelsea currently consider the 20-year-old untouchable.

Acheampong started Chelsea’s 3-2 victory over Fulham, and new manager Xabi Alonso appears to rate him highly.

Therefore, United could face difficulties pursuing Acheampong, while the opportunity to sign Tosin gives Carrick another defensive option.

With the deadline approaching, Manchester United must now decide whether to strengthen their defence after already rebuilding their midfield.
