Tottenham Hotspur are already looking towards January after completing an extensive squad overhaul during the summer transfer window.
Roberto De Zerbi received significant backing, with Spurs spending more than £300 million on 10 senior additions.
Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes arrived to reshape midfield, while Omar Marmoush and Savio strengthened the attacking department.
Tottenham also recruited Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson and Tosin Adarabioyo to reinforce their defensive options.
However, the club endured a difficult opening to the Premier League season after losing against Brentford and Newcastle United.
Their only early victory came in the EFL Cup, where Tottenham defeated Charlton Athletic 5-1.
Despite the summer investment, Spurs are already identifying potential options for the next transfer window.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur have kept Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta on their January shortlist.
The 28-year-old is also attracting interest from Aston Villa, creating the possibility of competition for his signature.
A summer move became unlikely after Mateta sustained a hamstring injury during training with Crystal Palace.
However, both Tottenham and Villa are expected to reassess his situation when the January window opens.
Either club could move for Mateta if they require another centre-forward during the winter.
His contractual position could also make a January transfer more achievable for interested clubs.
Mateta’s current Crystal Palace contract expires next summer, leaving January as their final opportunity to receive a transfer fee.
The striker would otherwise be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club from January.
Alternatively, Mateta could remain at Palace before assessing his options as a free agent next summer.
Crystal Palace are therefore expected to consider a lower fee than the figures they previously demanded for him.
Tottenham have retained Mateta on their long-term list and could make him one of their first priorities in January.
