Manchester United find Luke Shaw replacement from Premier League

United now have several possible routes available as they assess their left-back position.

Manchester United have endured a difficult start to the 2026/27 season, and that has highlighted several areas requiring attention under Michael Carrick.

The Red Devils have managed only one victory from their opening five Premier League fixtures and currently sit 12th.

United spent more than £155 million rebuilding their midfield during the summer, bringing in Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.

However, they failed to add a specialist senior left-back, leaving Luke Shaw as Carrick’s primary option in that position.

His contract expires in June 2027, and United’s search for another left-back could become increasingly important over the coming months.

According to Football Insider, Manchester United could revive their long-standing interest in Fulham defender Antonee Robinson.

United reignited their interest in the USA international earlier this year but ultimately decided against completing a summer transfer.

Robinson has now strengthened his case following Fulham’s 1-1 Premier League draw against Carrick’s side on September 20.

The 29-year-old completed 94 per cent of his passes and created two chances during his 90-minute appearance.

He also made three tackles, two blocks and four recoveries while winning 67 per cent of his ground duels.

Robinson has provided 17 assists across the past four seasons, compared with Shaw’s four during the same period.

United could therefore reconsider a move as Carrick looks to strengthen his defensive options, potentially as early as January.

However, Robinson is not the only Premier League left-back linked with a potential move to Old Trafford.

Football Insider also identifies Crystal Palace defender Tyrick Mitchell as a United target, with Palace attempting to retain the 27-year-old.

United could alternatively provide 19-year-old Harry Amass with additional opportunities rather than spending money during the winter window.

With Shaw’s long-term situation uncertain, United now have several possible routes available as they assess their left-back position.
