Arsenal entered the international break after an otherwise impressive start ended with a setback at Brighton.
Mikel Arteta’s side opened with victories over Coventry City, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Sunderland. Brighton then handed them a comprehensive 3-0 defeat.
The summer had already brought significant changes to Arteta’s squad.
Bruno Guimaraes arrived from Newcastle United for £75 million. Arsenal also signed Ezri Konsa and made Piero Hincapie’s stay permanent.
Christos Tzolis strengthened the attack following Gabriel Martinelli’s £60 million departure to Al-Hilal. Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard also left the club.
Despite those changes, sporting director Andrea Berta continues to plan beyond the current campaign.
According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal have now made contact over a potential January move for Gilberto Mora.
The 17-year-old Club Tijuana playmaker impressed for Mexico during the 2026 World Cup. He has since become his country’s youngest senior international goalscorer.
Mora turns 18 later this month. That will remove the FIFA restrictions currently preventing an international transfer while he remains a minor.
Arsenal scouts monitored Mora during the World Cup and have continued tracking his development.
The Gunners have also established contact through his agent, Rafaela Pimenta. Exploratory approaches have taken place regarding a possible release clause.
That clause could be worth between €20 million and €25 million, reaching approximately £21.2 million.
The report states that Arteta and Berta both rate Mora highly. Arsenal could also move aggressively to secure his signature. However, competition for the midfielder is significant.
Liverpool have already made contact, while Borussia Dortmund and Benfica have held early discussions with his representatives. Real Madrid and Barcelona are monitoring Mora as well.
Club Tijuana are expected to demand a Liga MX record fee. Mora remains contracted to the Mexican club until 2029. A January agreement is now considered possible once the midfielder turns 18.
