Last season, Manchester United conceded 54 goals. They conceded more goals than the sides that qualified for the Champions League by finishing in the top five of the league table.
Now, many of those goals were because of goalkeeping errors, and the man in between the sticks should take the responsibility for that in a club like Manchester United.
That is why Ruben Amorim, the Manchester United boss, is looking for a change in personnel in goal for the Red Devils. He is backing Andre Onana publicly.
However, behind the scenes, United are anticipating offers for the Cameroonian so that they can offload him. Also, the situation is the same for Altay Bayindir.
The Turkish man failed to impress the Manchester United boss with the changes he had as the second-choice goalkeeper for the Red Devils.
So, United would like to move him on as well if they fail to move Onana on to create space for the new arrivals.
They are looking at a goalkeeper who can become the first-choice from the beginning. Previously, they were looking at Emiliano Martinez.
But, Aston Villa are asking a large amount, and that is out of reach for the Red Devils because they don’t have a large transfer budget unless some players get sold.
Now, they are looking at Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG. The Champions League winner’s contract with the French club will end in 2026.
According to CaughtOffside, Donnarumma is not looking to renew his contract because of the terms PSG proposed.
The Italian international is looking for a move away from the club. So, if Manchester United can convince him, they can sign him with a nominal transfer fee.
However, the Red Devils will face competition from Chelsea and other Serie A clubs who are monitoring his situation as well.
So, it will be interesting to see what will happen in the Gianluigi Donnarumma to Manchester United transfer saga.
