Manchester United had an average transfer window. They were looking for players for many positions.
Ruben Amorim wanted to rebuild the squad from scratch. The Portuguese boss indicated that he wants to create a team centred around Bruno Fernandes.
That is why he was adamant to keep Bruno Fernandes in the team even after the Portuguese international receiving massive offers from Saudi Pro League clubs.
Amorim wanted to part ways with Andre Onana, but United failed to do so. But they have signed a new goalkeeper in Senne Lammens.
Along with the goalkeeper, signing a midfielder was a priority for United. So, the Red Devils tried to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton.
However, the Premier League club was not ready to part ways with their midfielder. Also, they were asking for astronomical figures for the Cameroonian.
After failing to sign Baleba, United set their sights on another midfielder from the Premier League. Amorim knows that he cannot rely on Casemiro.
Manuel Ugarte still needs time to adapt to the Premier League. Also, Bruno Fernandes is adapting his game while playing as a No.8 instead of his usual No.10 position.
That is why signing a defensive midfielder was important for Manchester United. The Red Devils will pursue Carlos Baleba next year.
However, in January, Ruben Amorim will once again ask United to bring him a new midfielder. According to TEAMtalk, United will target Adam Wharton in the winter transfer window.
But Manchester United are not the only club that will look to sign the Crystal Palace midfielder. Chelsea are also showing interest and are ready to make a move in January.
Yet, the Red Devils need Wharton more than Chelsea because the Blues already have good midfielders in their squad.
So, Manchester United must act fast in January if they want to secure Adam Wharton and give Ruben Amorim the midfielder he is desperately asking for.
