Manchester United’s midfield has been under the spotlight for some time now.
Injuries, inconsistency, and lack of control in the centre of the pitch have left the team searching for answers.
The club’s management knows that to return to the top, a strong and experienced presence in midfield is essential.
The winter market could provide an opportunity. United have been monitoring several options. They even prepared a bid for Brighton’s Carlos Baleba.
But the Premier League club shut the door in front of United, as they were not ready to sell their midfielder.
So, Manchester United did not sign a midfielder this summer, even though Ruben Amorim was desperate to sign one.
According to Fichajes, that is where Marco Verratti comes into the picture. The Italian was once the heartbeat of Paris Saint-Germain, running the midfield in Ligue 1 and the Champions League.
His sudden exit came after coach Luis Enrique did not count on him, which forced him to take an offer from Qatar.
Now playing at Al Duhail, he has spent two seasons away from Europe but has kept himself competitive.
At 32, Verratti feels ready for one more challenge at the top level. United believe his arrival in January could add stability and experience.
Verratti has the perfect qualities to balance a squad that has many young players still developing.
His career in Paris proved his consistency, with countless domestic titles and regular runs deep into Europe’s biggest competition.
A return to a major league would give him the chance to show he still belongs among the elite.
For Manchester United, this is about more than just another signing. It would be a statement move, showing intent to fix the midfield problem with proven quality.
In the January window, Marco Verratti’s name will be one of the most talked about in Old Trafford circles for sure.
