Ruben Amorim picked up a 2-1 win over Chelsea last weekend. But questions around his future haven’t gone away.
That victory, helped by an early red card and poor decisions from Enzo Maresca, was only Amorim’s 19th win in 48 games as United boss.
He has not managed to win back-to-back league matches since taking over from Erik ten Hag in November. Now, one Bundesliga manager is being linked to the role.
Amorim’s system has come under fire. His commitment to the 3-4-2-1 shape has frustrated fans and pundits. He rarely changes approach, even when results are inconsistent.
Manchester United are 11th in the Premier League table after five games. While Amorim’s position is far from safe, another coach has drawn attention.
Eintracht Frankfurt manager Dino Toppmoller has publicly praised Manchester United. The 44-year-old revealed that he grew up supporting the club through video games. Toppmoller told Bild (via The Sun):
“I often played computer games as a child, always with one team: Manchester United.
That would definitely be nice someday, because it’s an extraordinary club.”
When I was a teenager, Manchester United was, along with Real Madrid, the biggest club of all.”
Right now, there is no official contact. But the comments have sparked discussion.
Toppmoller led Frankfurt to a third-place finish in the Bundesliga last season. It was their best result since 1992–93. Still, a move for him would be unexpected.
The Frankfurt manager has 46 wins from 101 games. That win rate may not excite a fan base used to bigger names.
Toppmoller also prefers a 3-4-3 system. It’s a formation not far from Amorim’s current setup. That could be a red flag for the United board.
For now, Ruben Amorim stays in the job. But with pressure mounting, names are starting to circle.
