Manchester United may have a big call to make ahead of next summer. Harry Maguire was expected to leave at the end of this season. Now, the situation has changed.
According to The Sun, the club is considering a new deal for a Harry Maguire. He joined United from Leicester in 2019.
Since then, he has made 251 appearances, scoring 16 goals and providing nine assists. Over the summer, several clubs made offers. United rejected them.
At 32, Maguire is no longer a regular starter. But the manager sees the England international as a leader in the dressing room.
Ruben Amorim even named him in a six-man leadership group. This group includes the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Tom Heaton, Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez, and Noussair Mazraoui.
Harry Maguire’s current contract runs until June 2026. The centre-back has only started once in the Premier League this season. That game was a 2-1 win over Chelsea, where he provided an assist.
He has also made three substitute appearances in the league. With interest from the Saudi Pro League growing, many expected Maguire to leave on a free next summer.
But United may want him to stay. As per reports, the Red Devils are ready to offer Maguire a new deal but with reduced wages. Maguire currently earns just under £200,000 a week.
He would need to accept a significant pay cut to remain at Old Trafford.
Several Manchester United players are also heading toward the exit. Casemiro’s contract ends in 2026. He could leave on a free transfer.
Tyrell Malacia is also out of contract and could depart sooner. Tom Heaton may not be offered an extension. He turns 40 next April.
Also, Jadon Sancho is on loan at Aston Villa. Marcus Rashford is expected to join Barcelona permanently next summer.
Meanwhile, the futures of Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte, and Joshua Zirkzee remain uncertain. Altay Bayindir could also leave if United bring in a new goalkeeper in 2026.
As for Maguire, the club may now see value in keeping a familiar voice in the dressing room.
