Manchester United were desperate to sign a midfielder after signing Benjamin Sesko this summer. However, they failed to land their main target, Carlos Baleba from Brighton and Hove Albion.
It is quite clear that the main problem for United is their midfield. They need another midfielder who can play as a number 6 or 8. Bruno Fernandes is not an ideal option for that role.
That is why the Red Devils could return to the market next summer. And one target from Spain is back on the radar.
If Ruben Amorim stays, he will demand a midfielder in January. According to Fichajes, they have now been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of a long-term target.
This move seemed impossible a year ago. But now, the situations have changed at Real Madrid. That is why United still eyeing a move for Federico Valverde.
The Uruguay international has been a regular at Real Madrid in recent seasons. He has made 331 appearances, scoring 32 goals and providing 34 assists.
This season, he has three assists from eight matches. He has also captained the team four times.
Reports claim that Manchester United are willing to offer €100 million (£87 million) for him. At first, that kind of deal looked out of reach. Also, Madrid are open to a possible sale.
Real Madrid are reportedly ready to listen to offers. While Valverde has long been seen as untouchable, head coach Xabi Alonso does not consider him irreplaceable as per reports from Spain.
The club is already looking at other midfield options. Paris Saint-Germain’s Vitinha is a top target for next summer.
Selling Valverde could make room for that move. His contract runs until June 2029. But the timing may finally favour Manchester United.
If United can convince Federico Valverde to join them, it will be massive signing. But the Red Devils will definitely need to give the Uruguayan Champions League football.
Otherwise, signing Valverde will only be a dream for Manchester United.
