Manchester United are looking to sign a midfielder in the next window. Their early-season struggles have highlighted the mistake of not signing a midfielder in the summer.
The Red Devils already have targets such as Morten Hjulmand, Carlos Baleba, and Adam Wharton on their list. Also, they are keeping an eye on an emerging England international.
Elliot Anderson has been one of Nottingham Forest’s best performers. So far, he has started all six Premier League games this season, as well as their Europa League opener.
After that, he delivered eye-catching displays on the international stage. He was named man of the match against Andorra and also impressed against Serbia.
Therefore, his stock has risen quickly, with Manchester United now taking a keen interest.
According to former United and Blackburn scout Mick Brown, Anderson is attracting plenty of attention. He believes many clubs are watching him closely. Brown told Football Insider:
“Forest aren’t going to want to lose Anderson. He’s very good on the ball, confident in possession, can break lines, and is an all-round midfielder. Any Premier League club would want him.”
Also, pundits have joined the praise. Joe Cole labelled Anderson “unbelievable” and even compared him to Steven Gerrard.
So, Manchester United’s interest makes sense. But Forest’s stance remains firm.
Transfer News Live revealed earlier that the club will demand over £70m for Anderson if bids arrive in 2026.
Postecoglou is determined to keep his best players. He has already resisted pressure over Morgan Gibbs-White and wants to do the same with Anderson.
Meanwhile, Anderson is under contract until 2029. Also, he is happy at the club and has no plans to leave.
Owner Evangelos Marinakis remains optimistic. He wants to be ambitious and build on last season’s progress, not lose key players.
Therefore, while United may view Anderson as a solution for their midfield, Forest are confident of fending off any approach.
