Atletico Madrid have started the La Liga season slowly. After 8 games, they are in 5th position in the table with 13 points.
The Rojiblancos are 8 points behind the league leaders, Real Madrid. However, they decimated their local rivals in the Madrid derby by 5-2.
Julian Alvarez scored twice in that game, and currently, he has scored 6 times in 8 games in La Liga for Los Colchoneros.
However, Diego Simeone knows that he needs another prolific goal scorer to win La Liga once again.
Barcelona and Real Madrid have upgraded their attack in the best possible manner. The Catalan club has the likes of Marcus Rashford, Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Robert Lewandowski up front.
On the other hand, the Los Blancos have a star-studded attack as well with the likes of Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, and Rodrygo.
So, Atletico needs to find another star striker who can make their attack lethal. The Argentine boss wants a player who has an eye for the goal.
And, it looks like he has found the right guy to bring in more goals for his team.
According to Fichajes, a former Manchester United striker is now on the radar of the Madrid club. Diego Simeone has seen what this player can do with amazing performances in recent years.
That is why Los Colchoneros are now desperate to bring in Mason Greenwood at the Estadio Metropolitano.
Since joining Olympique Marseille in 2024, Greenwood has been fantastic for the French club. In 45 games for the club, he has scored 25 goals and provided 10 assists.
Atletico explored the possibility of signing Greenwood in the summer. However, that pursuit never came to fruition.
Marseille is looking at a fee of around of around €75 million to sell the player. They signed Greenwood from Manchester United by paying €31.6 million in total.
Also, Manchester United have a 50% sell-on clause for the English player. So, the Premier League club will benefit hugely from this Mason Greenwood to Atletico Madrid deal.
