Real Madrid appear to have shifted their midfield focus ahead of next summer’s transfer window.
The Los Blancos were eyeing a move for a Liverpool star. But they have now reportedly ruled out that option. The Merengues are eyeing two new targets from the Premier League.
For a while, many Liverpool supporters feared another raid from the Spanish giants after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s high-profile move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
However, those concerns now seem over. According to Fichajes, Real Madrid are no longer interested in Alexis Mac Allister.
The Argentine midfielder was once seen as a potential long-term addition to the Real Madrid midfield.
The report claims that Los Blancos have cooled their interest due to a noticeable dip in Mac Allister’s form and lingering concerns over his fitness.
The 2022 World Cup winner missed the final weeks of Liverpool’s title-winning campaign with a muscle injury. And, similar problems have persisted into the new season.
The 26-year-old has returned to the starting lineup, featuring in six Premier League matches so far. But, Real Madrid’s recruitment team has turned its attention elsewhere.
Club scouts are now said to be monitoring Enzo Fernandez of Chelsea and Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace as potential signings for Xabi Alonso’s midfield.
Fernandez has thrived under Enzo Maresca’s management, moving into a more advanced role that has seen him score 12 goals across all competitions since the start of last season.
The Argentine’s influence at Stamford Bridge has grown significantly, forming a strong partnership with Moises Caicedo in midfield.
Meanwhile, Wharton continues to impress at Crystal Palace. The 21-year-old has already drawn comparisons with some of England’s best young midfielders.
Real Madrid are also considering a return for Nico Paz, currently at Como, who remains under a buy-back clause that could see him rejoin the Spanish champions for under €10 million.
Still, signing either Fernandez or Wharton would not be straightforward for Madrid. Enzo Fernandez is under contract with Chelsea until 2031, while Adam Wharton’s deal with Palace runs until 2029.
