The Premier League champions, Liverpool, made a great start to their title defence. After 5 matches, they were unbeaten winning all five of them.
It felt like Liverpool were destined to successfully defend their crown until they went to Selhurst Park. Crystal Palace gave the Reds a much-needed reality check.
After that game, they went on to lose against Turkish champions Galatasaray and the Club World Cup champions Chelsea.
Because of this string of losses, the Reds have lost their top spot in the table. Also, with injuries to Ibrahima Konate and Giovanni Leoni, Liverpool’s squad depth looks shallow.
And, Arne Slot knows that this could damage his chances of retaining the Premier League this season. That is why the Reds are expected to be active in the upcoming January transfer market.
It is a no-brainer that Liverpool will try to get Marc Guehi out of Palace, something they failed to do last time around.
But the Dutch manager wants to sign a new midfielder as well. The performance of Alexis Mac Allister this season has not been satisfactory.
Also, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo have question marks over their availability for the game against Manchester United this Sunday.
So, signing a midfielder is becoming a priority for Arne Slot. His mega signing, Florian Wirtz, is yet to fire in the Premier League.
The former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has defended his country and asked everyone to be patient with Wirtz, as he is a quality footballer.
However, Slot is a proactive manager, and that was why he wanted to sign a midfielder from Serie A. According to TBR Football, Liverpool will not be signing this Juventus midfielder.
The Italian giants have informed the Premier League champions that they are not ready to listen to offers for Khephren Thuram.
Thus, the Reds will now scout the market to find other suitable midfielders who can help Slot to replicate last season’s success.
