Ruben Amorim perhaps won the biggest game of his career as the Manchester United boss yesterday. The Portuguese boss won at Anfield.
The last time United achieved this feat was when Wayne Rooney scored the winner and the Red Devils won by 1-0 at Anfield.
The Portuguese boss was under immense pressure. However, Amorim did release some of the pressure when the Red Devils beat Sunderland at Old Trafford.
But this win at Anfield was a complete statement. Amorim did win at the Etihad Stadium last season. However, the Portuguese boss has put this win over the win against Manchester City.
“That was the biggest win in my time at Manchester United. It means a lot today, but tomorrow it won’t mean a lot.”
Also, Ruben Amorim slammed the British media because of the narrative they were running. It seemed that Amorim was on the verge of getting the sack at Old Trafford.
Even after Sir Jim Ratcliffe expressed that he is ready to give Amorim three years, they were not stopping the sack narrative. So, after the game, the Portuguese boss said:
“I want you guys to continue with the narrative that you are. Don’t change that. That is best for me. I will not now increase the goal, or whatever.
“No. You continue now with the same narrative. What we need to do is try to win three games in a row and then forget about the top four, top six. We already said that we need to qualify for Europe.”
The Manchester United boss also said that they are now focusing on the next game as they have a clear goal in mind. Amorim said:
“But this doesn’t change anything. We are the same team that we were 90 minutes ago. The way people see the team is different, but we are the same team.
“We have a lot to do. We had some luck in a few moments. We had amazing spirit, and we need to take all of that to the next game so it’s always the same.”
Manchester United will take on Brighton and Hove Albion in their next game at Old Trafford. And, Amorim will be looking to make it three wins in a row for sure.
