Manchester United signed Benjamin Sesko last summer. Also, they parted ways with Rasmus Hojlund. The Danish international is now playing in Italy with Napoli.
The Red Devils already had two young strikers in the form of Joshua Zirkzee and Hojlund before Sesko came. So, it was inevitable that one of the previous two will leave.
So, Ruben Amorim decided to part ways with Rasmus Hojlund. But the Portuguese boss also wanted to sign an experienced striker. However, such a move never came to fruition.
Manchester United wanted to sign a midfielder after signing Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Sesko. Yet, they failed to sign a midfielder as well.
In the January transfer window, the main target for the Red Devils will be to sign a midfielder first. They are already lining up a move for Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace.
Also, Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest is a target for Manchester United. However, their main target is Carlos Baleba who could become available next summer.
While signing a striker, the Red Devils will be looking for an opportunity to sign an experienced striker who could lead the line and guide the younger ones like Zirkzee and Sesko.
United wanted Ollie Watkins but the interest is slowly fading away. However, there is another experienced English striker getting interest from the Red Devils.
According to Football Insider, Manchester United could be eyeing a move for the former Brentford striker Ivan Toney.
The English striker wants to feature for England in the 2026 World Cup. Currently, he is doing fantastic in the Saudi Pro League.
However, a move to England could boost his chances of making the England squad for the World Cup. Toney is under contract with Al-Ahli till 2028.
So, a loan deal in January may not be feasible. It will be interesting to see how Manchester United could get this deal over the line as the Saudi club will demand an important fee.
🚨 Manchester United are among the admirers of Al Ahli striker Ivan Toney and could look to bring the former Brentford hitman back to the Premier League in the January transfer window.
The 29-year old has scored 39 goals in 55 games for the Saudi Arabian club.
