In a sensational interview with the BBC, the current Barcelona striker, Robert Lewandowski, has revealed that he was close to joining Manchester United in 2012.

This will surely fuel his transfer speculation as the Red Devils are already getting linked to the Polish striker. In that interview, Robert Lewandowski said:

“To Manchester United I decided and said yes. I wanted to join Manchester United, to see Alex Ferguson.”

Lewandowski also said that Borussia Dortmund didn’t sell him as they wanted to get more money.

“They could not sell me. Because they knew if I stayed they could earn more money, and that I could wait maybe one or two more years. But it is true that I said yes to Manchester United.”

Also, when asked whether he regrets not playing in the Premier League, the Polish international replied:

“Maybe it could be a regret. But when I am looking back [having] played for Bayern Munich, Dortmund and now Barcelona I have to say I am very happy with my career.

“I don’t have this kind of feeling that I missed something, because every move or decision… I made because I wanted it.”

Lewandowski’s wish of playing in the Premier League may come true as the Daily Star is reporting that Manchester United are eyeing a sensational move to sign him from Barcelona next summer.

Robert Lewandowski will be a free agent next summer when his contract expires. Also, Ruben Amorim is looking for an experienced striker. The 37-year-old is now linked with Saudi clubs.

However, if Manchester United come knocking on the door, Lewandowski might have a change of heart and decide to fulfil his wish of playing in the Premier League before hanging up his boots.
