An El Clasico without fights is incomplete. So, the tension was already sky-high before the kick-off at the Santiago Bernabeu for the Real Madrid vs Barcelona clash due to off-the-pitch comments.
But what followed after the game took the legendary Madrid-Barca rivalry to another level. The evening began with drama and ended in absolute mayhem.
Real Madrid are now five points clear at the top of LaLiga with a 2-1 win against Barcelona. But their El Clasico victory celebrations quickly turned sour after what happened in the tunnel.
Even before the game, there was a controversy. The trigger came earlier in the week when Lamine Yamal started the controversy during a Kings League appearance.
When asked about a rival team, he said they “complain and steal like Real Madrid.” The comment went viral and instantly added spice to El Clasico. And the Bernabeu crowd never let him forget it.
He was booed every time he touched the ball. The match also had everything. When the whistle blew, tempers erupted. Dani Carvajal, who had been trying to confront Yamal about his comments.
What might have ended there turned explosive when Vinicius Jr. joined in. The Brazilian was already frustrated after being substituted in the 72nd minute.
He stormed towards the group and clapped mockingly in Yamal’s direction. And, all hell broke lose, and even the police had to enter the pitch to separate both sides.
Also, Xabi Alonso had to hold Vinicius back as tensions reached the breaking point. Security officials eventually restored order, but the fallout is far from over.
The drama overshadowed what had been an intense match. Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham both found the net to seal Real Madrid’s win, while Fermin Lopez scored for Barcelona.
This El Clasico has become memorable because police had to step in to stop the confrontations from spiralling out of control.
