Jose Mourinho is one of the greatest and most controversial figures in football management. He has managed some of the biggest clubs in the world.
However, after leaving those clubs, some of them talk about him fondly, and some are enraged by his antics. But there is one thing for sure, his exits will always make headlines.
Jose Mourinho has once again made headlines in the most Jose Mourinho way possible.
The Portuguese tactician has reportedly left Fenerbahce with a staggering £656,000 hotel bill after spending more than a year living in luxury during his 16-month spell in Turkey.
According to Yenicag Gazetesi, the 62-year-old called the prestigious Four Seasons Hotel in Istanbul his home for around 15 months.
Furthermore, as per reports, his lavish stay cost an eye-watering 36.5 million Turkish lira. The Turkish club are now covering the cost.
The luxury residence, situated on the banks of the Bosphorus, is famous for its marble bathrooms, private terraces, and breathtaking views.
However, Mourinho’s results on the pitch failed to match the grandeur of his surroundings.
Fenerbahce sacked the “Special One” in August after the club crashed out of the Champions League playoffs to Benfica. Ironically, it was the very team Mourinho now manages.
To make matters worse for fans, he pocketed a £13 million compensation payout despite having two years left on his contract.
Also, this alleged hotel bill has only added fuel to the anger among supporters. Many have accused club officials of letting Mourinho “live like royalty” while the team underperformed.
It is not the first time Mourinho has chosen to live in a hotel rather than a home.
During his Manchester United tenure, he famously stayed at the Lowry Hotel for his entire spell, reportedly racking up costs of over £500,000.
