They have been here before chasing a striker, reassessing plans, and going back to the boardroom after another name slips through their fingers.
After Liam Delap opted for Stamford Bridge over Old Trafford, Manchester United found themselves staring at a familiar dilemma.
But this time, there is renewed clarity, and the club might just have found the forward they truly want.
Tall, commanding, and devastating in the final third, the target in question has taken the Bundesliga by storm.
His physical presence has drawn comparisons to the best, but it is his eye for goal, 39 in 87 appearances, to be exact, that has turned heads across Europe.
Add eight assists to that tally, and the math becomes too hard to ignore.
United’s recruitment department has acted swiftly. Having monitored the player extensively, director of recruitment Christopher Vivell is believed to have given the green light for a summer move.
Sources at Bild confirm that Vivell personally attended RB Leipzig’s 3-2 win over Wolfsburg to assess the striker’s progress before backing the transfer internally.
While United’s interest in Benjamin Sesko is not new, the seriousness of their pursuit has intensified. The 21-year-old Slovenia international now stands at the top of their list, viewed as a long-term solution up front.
But as is often the case in modern football, there is a twist. Arsenal have entered the fray, holding discussions with Leipzig as well. The €65 million release clause only makes the chase more competitive.
Still, Manchester United believe they have one key edge, the full backing of a recruitment chief who knows German football inside out and sees Benjamin Sesko as more than just potential, but a player ready to lead a new frontline.
This time, Old Trafford is not just watching, they are moving.
