England are through to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in a convincing fashion. Thomas Tuchel’s men played eight games and won all of them.
What’s more astonishing is their staggering defensive record. The Three Lions have not conceded a single goal in the World Cup qualifiers.
However, it is not surprising that England are playing such dominant football. In fact, the Premier League is by far the best football league in the world.
To make a league the best in the world, the players have to be that good. So, England now possess a great pool of talented footballers.
For each position on the pitch, Thomas Tuchel now have the luxury of two to three back-up players. That is why many talented English players may not get the chance to represent the Three Lions.
However, in the World Cup, almost every player has a dream of playing in the most prestigious football tournament on earth.
Yet, for some players waiting for an England call-up, it looks like a distant dream. But there is a way they can still participate in the World Cup.
Recently, Scotland qualified for the FIFA World Cup. Also, Ireland are in the play-offs due to Troy Parrott’s heroics against Hungary.
So, there is an option for players who are waiting for an England call-up. Now, according to FIFA, players may switch if they have not played a competitive senior match.
This might open the door for one player who just received one chance to represent England, and that too in a friendly against Wales five years ago.
According to SPORTBIBLE, Harvey Barnes, the 27-year-old Newcastle United winger, could switch from England to Scotland under FIFA rules.
Barnes was born in Burnley and raised in Leicestershire, but qualifies for Scotland through his maternal grandparents.
Scotland already benefit from dual-nationality players such as McTominay, Andrew Robertson and John McGinn. So, whether Barnes makes that decision remains uncertain.
